Dr. Anat Caspi, Director of the Taskar Center for Accessible Technology, will speak during “Can I Get There from Here? Creating a Complete Network” at the 2026 AASHTO Joint Council on Active Transportation and Committee on Planning Meeting in Baltimore.
The session will examine network connectivity and gap analysis from statewide planning to individual facilities. Presenters will discuss how transportation agencies can identify incomplete active-transportation networks, evaluate whether facilities are accessible to all users, draw on data from community engagement and technology, and apply connectivity analysis to planning and project prioritization.
Dr. Caspi will present TCAT’s work on statewide sidewalk inventories and accessible pedestrian-network data developed through the Transportation Data Exchange Initiative. Her presentation will discuss why states need a shared pedestrian-data resource that supports local use, statewide planning, and long-term maintenance rather than one-time inventories.
She will also highlight how AccessMap and related tools can help identify accessibility islands, network gaps, and high-leverage locations where relatively small improvements can unlock substantial gains in connected access.
